CLAIM ON ACCOUNT OF SUSPENSION OF THROUGH TRAFFIC,

opened for traffic on the oth October. Through traffic was however suspended on the morning of the 7th November at the request of the Viceroy of Canton. This was subso- quently confirmed by the Board of Pusts and Communications through the British Minister at Peking, compensation in teras of the Working Agreement being offerom. Clause 7 (f) of the Working Agreement reads us follows:-

"When in circumstances of political emergency it is necessary either for the Hongkong Government or for the Chinese Government to suspend the running of Through Truins due notice( not less than six hours clear) shall be given by the one Government to the other and compensation shall be paid by the Government requesting such suspension at a daily rate of half the average gross receipts of the other section on through traffic as ascertained from the accounts for the corresponding month of the previous year, or failing that for the last preceuing month.”
